D1-D4 Shootout, how many D1 guys would attend?
We were discussing a D1-D4 shootout in St. Clairsville, It's a haul for a lot of D1 guys since PA is not a small state. Just looking for some input on if it would be worth looking into do it there or maybe a little further North?

St. Clairsville is a pretty fair drive for the guys from Michigan already. Where would the geographical center of the two districts be? St.C is about as far east as you can go in D4.

From the Western egde of Indiana to the Atlantic.....roughly St. Clairsville....but from Maine to SW edge of Kentucky the center is around Mansfield PA, and from the NW corner of Michigan to the SE corner of Delaware we hit Youngstown OH......makes for a big triangle with no one flying pattern in other than St. Clairsville.
No biggie, just a fact finding mission.......

Pete, most likely I would not be able to make a spring contest either. We're normally pretty well packed with contests from mid May up to the NATS. I guess we should revisit the idea about Jan-Feb to see how the 2011 schedule is shaping up. It's hard to predict what kind of attendance you might get though. The D1-D2 shootout in MD this past June was very poorly attended by D1 pilots, and that's a shorter drive for most pilots concerned.

Honestly, as much as I like the St. Clairsville area, logistically it just doesn't make sense. You can make St. C from everywhere in D4 in about 4 hours, maybe 5. For most of the D1 guys you are looking at somewhere in the neighborhood of 6-7 hours, and probably more for a lot of guys. Unfortunately there just aren't many pilots in the PA area. The way these districts are setup geographically makes this rather tough. For the D1-D2 shootout we had, most guys are within 4 hours, with a few being 6 or so, but not many beyond that. With the D4-D5 shootout, the same is true. With this contest unless you find somewhere in PA to hold it, you are looking at a long drive for a lot of the guys from D1.
