NATS 2012 : Let the journey begin!

1 Attachment(s)
Well it looks like its that time of the year again!

I would like to use this thread as a "catch all" for any NATS related discussion.

Feel free to post pictures/video of your Journey leading up to NATS and while AT NATS.

I guess I will go first and post a couple pictures. One is my Axiome at my new home field in Mulberry, FL and the other is a picture of Jason Shulman's Shark at his home field in Apopka, Fl. Neil Rivera Sent me a photo of a fleet of Sebart Wind S pros at Apopka, Fl

Today I was able to get 8 flights in this morning and Jason said he is spending most of his day breaking in batteries with his Oxai Shark.

Hope everyone has fun with this thread.

Thank you,
Chris Odom

Looking good Chris, glad the new plane is working out for you.

I have the Pentathlon tuned up as my primary, and trusty Harmony bipe as backup.

I am having a trim session this weekend on the Harmony as we are switching it over to my SD 10 from Mark Hunts program who has been competeing with it this year.
If it goes really well, it might become my primary.

I will update tomorrow with pics and some feedback... let the journey begin!

See everyone there!

I plan to go this year (first time).

Some questions.

1. Will there be a problem to find 110v power outlet at the field because many pilots want to do so? I do not have a generator yet.

2. How many flights one should expect per day this year for AMA classes? I heard last year it wa two per day.

Thanks in advance.

Hi Nonstop,
This will be my first year, too. However I am fortunate enough to be in D4 where we had a "Nats Warmup" a few weeks ago. Muncie is a cool place, it is ALL ABOUT model airplanes. That is just amazing to me :D

Anyway, you will be fine without a generator. I don't have one either. The worst-case scenario would be you have to charge away from your site - could be a couple of yards, or a small walk to find outlets. But some of the sites have ample power and the whole place is electrified.

NonStop,

You are going to have NONSTOP fun at the NATS this year. For that week it is pattern paradise in Muncie, Indiana.

At NATS we only fly twice a day. I might be wrong but I don't think Advanced and Intermediate have Finals day this year so those classes will only fly 3 days of 2 flights a day. Masters and FAI have finals and will fly 4 flights on the fourth day of NATS

Good Luck!

Chris

Is there power at site 4?

Plenty of power outlets at site 4 , I would recommend to bring an extension cord, not really needed but you just never know how far the outlet might be...

RE: NATS 2012 : Let the journey begin!

During these past few hot days, I have been working on cleaning up my Wind 110 and got it sold, crated, and shipped. I've never been comfortable with that plane, so it is nice to get it out of the picture. I've spent the past day and a half straightening up my Yak - straightened out the rudder, snugged up the wing tube/sockets, adjusted the stab a touch... The plane is now pretty darn straight and getting better. Left to do is install some new pull cables for the rudder (simplified, cleaner system than before) and a pair of new shoes and it will be ready for hours of practice, just in time to prep for the big show :)

My goal is to fly just for the experience. I want to practice enough to give some honest flights, such that any suggestions I am given will be based on my true skill and comfort level. This (upcoming) week will be all about the fun, the enjoyment, the atmosphere, and most importantly the learning and the friendships.

(I will wait until next year to start kicking butt :)

Bill,

I had another one built and was flying that one. I let a fellow pilot in need have my Monster Magic but it suffered a regulator failure in flight not long after. The plane is gone. The plane served me well and the other pilot was able to take second at NATS in Intermediate with it.
