ys 120 fz vs. ys 110
 

I am looking at the 120 or the 110 for a 9 to 9.5 lb plane. What is the power vs weight of both of these motors. Is the weight savings of the 110 worth the reduction in power?

Hi Jeff,
If the size is proportionqte to the weight (not just a fat airplane), then at 9-9.5 pounds you may find that the YS110 will leave you a little short on nose weight. Instead of trying to jam all of the equipment forward it would be more practical to use the extra weight of the 120 while gaining 5-7% more power. The 120 was designed to handle 1.8 meter airplanes with weights in the 9 pound region. The 110 is better suited for airplanes in the 8 pound region.

The YS 110 replace the 91 FZ, the 120 is no longer made and has been replace by the YS 140 Sport. Which is a power house. It will turn a APC 16X11 at 8,800 with Cool Power 30% Heli. I will be using one in Master Pattern in a 10 lbs airplane.

As far as what motor is for you. Well the 110 may not have unlimited performance with a over 9 lbs airplane. But you do not say if you wanted unlimited.

I flew 9.5 pound BeatOn 90 with ys 91. My avatar show a oicture of it.
Not a whole lot of power, but was good for the intermetiate.
110 has a little more grunt, enough for the intermediate.

120 has a little more than 110.
New 115 should be par to the 120nc or a little less.

It will be a lot easier to tell which engine to go if we know which airframe you are trying to choose the engine for.

The 1.20 FZ is a super friendly sports YS engine... it just works so well. And in my case is still working after all these yeas with very little strip down time. The only other YS that has the same no nonsense usability is the 1.40FZ IMO.<div>I noticed that the more they developed a certain mark to increase power, the small problems increased proportionally, until they'd manage to screw out every ounce of power (at a user cost/ quirks/more service time etc) and it was time for a new model/larger bore casting.</div><div><div>

I stopped buying into that YS marketing business model 10 years ago after buying an original 120F. 120FZ, the small 63 and one 140L that just didn't work. After the L destroyed the front end of a brand new, just finished Alliancedue toa bad metering section, that did it for me. No more YS 4 strokes in larger displacement...to be fair, never had a problem with the F, FZ of small 63

But did stand by and admiredYS Marketingfrom a distance. It was quite effective and still is but to a much smaller degree; it should be taught in business school as a case study of how to do it.......</div></div>
