Default What to do with a dropped servo?

well. it happened and now I need some expert advise. I was working on my PRIZED Waco build when I knocked an aileron servo on the ground - it went smack!!! I do not want to take a risk with using a servo that could crash this airplane. I pulled the cover off and inspected the circuit board for defects or damage. All was well. It operates ok. What about the magnets in the motor? could they be damaged. Any info on this is not to found so I am looking for opinions. The servo is a Hitech Hs-475.

If I worried every time I dropped a servo, I'd have given up a long time ago.

yeah - i know but i had to ask. Has anyone had servo failure. I had one on a trainer rudder. it failed in neutral so I got real lucky, i didn't know the history of it.

I would not worry about it. If you are worried about it put it on a tester for 15 minutes. If you don't have a tester - Hitec makes a servo programmer/tester for $27.00.

If you are asking if servos fail....yes. Did your drop harm yours? I doubt it, like said before, plug it in and test it.

I would thoroughly test it and see. If in doubt get a new 485 servo for $17.00. Don't let $17 ruin your airplane or make you wonder/worry about it when you fly.

About the only thing that could happen is you broke a gear.

I run all my new servos for an hour on an automatic tester...

I'd suggest doing the same... if you are still worried about it.. a new servo is cheap insurance for peace of mind...

After losing a $400 helicopter to a faulty e-flight servo.. I now take NOchances..

I realize I only speak for myself, but I have never had a servo failure using name brands. (Futaba, Hitec, etc.) I did lose a control horn once which caused a crash. I apparently didn't tighten the screw. And I have had linkage failures.
I did buy a cheap Tower Pro (not Tower Hobbies) once and it failed before I flew the airplane.
But with regular servos I have dropped them, pulled them out of crashed airplanes and re-used them, even replaced the wire in the servo, and have not had a servo failure.
I also don't fly Gas, or 3D. The largest planes I have are 120 size, so I don't know what problems the bigger ones may cause. OH, and I started flying in the 70s
