Default RC for Dummies, Can you tell me what I need..

Hi, my name is Joel, my wife and I manage the youth group for our church.
We would like to do an "Egg Dropping" contest this summer, where you have to build a device to protect your egg and you drop it from a certain height and see if it breaks. Problem is we have no high windows, so I need to build a pole with an egg dropping device.

I need but buy (prefab) or builda remote control device, very much like you guys use to drop bombs from RCplanes and such.
some sort of Servo seems to be the way to go, but as far as controlling one froma remote control, I'm not sure what all I'd need.

I can solder and follow a basic diagram if necessary, but the whole world of RC stuff is new to me (outside buying a RC car at radio shack:-)

Weight is no problem since it will be suspended from a pole, but I'd like to keep the cost low.

Thanks in advance,
Joel

You could purchase one of these inexpensive RC Radios, from Hobby King ($22)

http://hobbyking.com/hobbyking/store...idProduct=8338

Add a cheap servo, battery, and switch harness and you can operate a Trap Door latch to drop the goodies.

There are most likely even cheaper options, as well.

Hey, take the easy way out: Some string, 2 small pulleys. Attach one string yoke to top of coffee can. One string to bottom of can via small hole. Put egg thingie in can and hoist to top. Tilt can with bottom string till it falls out. $3 will do it. Good paper shopping bag with handles might work just as good.

As much as I would normally encourage someone to participate in RC, you really don't need it.

Just make a box with a trap door. Secure the door with a pin attached to a string. Raise the box, pull the string, Voila!
