Default HiTec Neon as Trainer Box to Fut 6EXA

All --

I am trying to use a HiTEC Neon 3-ch Radio(Ch14) as a "buddy box" for my Futaba 6EXA digital (Ch57). I have the correct cord.

When I use a Futaba as the master, the moment I turn on the power to the plane all goes crazy...BUT...when I flip the "trainer" switch on the Futaba, giving control to the Neon, I can control the plane fine with the Neon.

When I switch recievers (from Futaba 127 to HiTec 4-ch) and use the Neon (Ch14) as the master, all works fine.

Any clue how to get my Fut 6EXA working as the Master instead of the Neon???

Cheers,
Scott

When you say "the correct cord", if you are using the Hitec cord then you are correct, if you are using the Futaba cord then you're not!

You must always use a Hitec trainer cord when using a Hitec radio with another Hitec or Futaba radio for training.

The 6EXA has a "new" cord for it anyway.

Not sure you can even use a Hitec cord with it. The 6EXA has the square plug that fits in the back of it like the 9C Futaba.

It looks like the new Futaba radios with the square trainer port will not be compatible with the Hitec radios. We will test this soon but I'm not optimistic that it will work.

Ok Mike,Glad to see You in here! I was under the impression that the trouble with the Hitec vs Futaba trainer cord issue was in the way Hitec disables the rf section of the "Buddy-Box"(Student transmitter).Doesn't it simply short two pins at the "Student end" connector? And, Can't You explain the issue to us Here and put an end to the confusion?
Thanks, Jeff K.

Default HiTec Trainer Cord Issues

I agree -- lets get this trainer cord issue out on the table.

I bought an old Futaba radio last night and it works just fine with the 6EXA -- I'm using a Futaba square-to-round trainer cord.

So, my hopes of using the NEON as a trainer have been dashed...

If you guys want to discuss the different output pins and how to make it work that is up to you. Hitec cannot be involed with that.

Origionally the Futaba cords would work, then they made a change and they wouldn't. This is why Hitec posted the statement below. Now Futaba has changed the plug so you can't use the Hitec cord. This means that the new Futaba radios with the square trainer port cannot be used with Hitec radios.

Mike.

Important Information Regarding Trainer cord compatibility

To our valued customers,

While Hitec radios are known to be trainer compatible with other Hitec and Futaba systems, Hitec has determined that the two-way Futaba cord is not 100% compatible with our systems and strongly suggests it not be used at any time.

Our tests show that when the Futaba trainer cord is used with a Hitec radio the slave transmitter will emit an RF signal, thus creating a potentially dangerous interference situation, and in some cases will burn up components in the slave and or master radio.

Hitec suggests that only the one-way Hitec trainer cord (#58310) be used with Hitec radio systems for training. Failing to do so will void the customers warranty and could create a potentially dangerous situation. Hitec apologizes for any inconvenience this may cause, but the safety of our customers is our utmost concern.
