Default Charging specs for MRC Model 2S-75

I have a Model Rectifier Corporation Model 2S-75 radio that I bought a gazillion years ago and just hauled out of storage (along with the corresponding R/C car) to play with my 9yo son. It's got a full set of eight Venom 2400 1.2V NiMH rechargeable batteries, and there's a DC jack that's labeled center-positive tap, but otherwise doesn't have any specs on how much voltage it expects or current it will draw when charging. Does anyone have any information about the flavor of transformer I'll need to plug into this thing to charge the batteries?

Side note: I'd respectfully suggest not suggesting buying a new radio/car/garage with integrated RC track/whatever If I had the dough for that, I wouldn't be posting. Thanks!
