shrink tubing on reciever antennas
i have searched and still am not sure, i run spektrum satellite recievers, mostly ar8000 . i have been told it is a good practice to put shrink tubing on the antenna wires, just dont cover the very end. was told it helpes secure a good connection between rec/trans, and of course when heated it will keep the leads straight,, what do you fellas know about this,,thanks guys

I use medium silicone fuel tubing on my rx's. Maybe I will order some robart air line for my next project. Haven't had any holds on 2.4 since I switched from 72 meg. I cover the entire wire and slide the tubing over the little plastic base aroound the wire at the base of the rx or satellite.

According to Horzion Hobby the antenna wire on needs to remain straight, not curved to get the best reception.

Now it sounds like two different reasons? Scotch tape has worked fine for me for years.

I have been using plastic coffee stirrers (like 1/2 dia straws ) with the outside glued to the structure to locate the ant & just a dab on the ant to keep it in the tube-just to locate the ant where I want it.

I'd think that clear tubing is OK. Don't know about colors, particularly black.
Apropos of nothing, quite a few of the radar detectors use a clear plastic "lens" to help focus the RF on the detector.
Seems that the lens increases side sensitivity.

RE: shrink tubing on reciever antennas
Hear is the link to HH on receiver and antenna placement. The video talks about using tubing to keep wires straight.................seems the whole idea is to keep 90 or 45 degrees on the wires ....I guess a bent wire would no longer be at perpendicular and quality of reception would suffer.
My guess is if one of my 4 antenna got bent the wrong way it would not bring my plane down, but if all (4)were twisted around things might get a little interesting.
I dont see any Idea on keeping wires straight hear being a problem so far.........I would however avoid grabbing black tubing....in my tubing box anyway!!!!!!! a few of my tubes are carbon fiber, I hear CF and 2.4 does not get along.
