Default AM vs FM frequency question

I understand that FM radios modulate by changing frequencies, so changing crystal frequency changes its channels. If AM radios modulate by amplitude, why do they use crystals that change frequency? Can FM radios interfere with AM radios on the same frequency?

Default RE: AM vs FM frequency question

The crystal generates the basic frequency for our transmitters to radiate. Frequency modulation causes the transmitter to diviate from that basic frequency slightly. Amplitude Modulation simply reduces the amplitude of the transmitted frequency created by the crystal. Changing the crystal will change the frequency of the transmitter in either case.
AM and FM will absolutely interfer with each other.
