Default DX18 can I use a PPM encoder? Connecting to Pixhawk flight control.

I want to use my DX18 on my pixhawk for my multicopter. Sadly the code to support beyond a DX8 through the DSM port has not be written yet for the pixhawk. Can I use a PPM encoder on the AR 9020 receiver that came with the DX18, so I can use the pixhawk's PPM port?
