Default Help! Need replacement remote for out of production r/c

Hi, I just joined because I found an old C5-R in my basement from when I was a kid, unfortunately with no controller. I don't know jack **** about R/Cs but I loved this thing and it would be awesome to get it up and running again. It was made by MA Toys, who seem to be a pretty small, obscure company and don't make this model anymore. I'm wondering if and where i could get a new controller for it.

All the info I can give is that it uses a 9.6V NICD battery pack and it says "Band 4" and "HI - Low (Gear)" underneath, near a switch.

Edit: It had a 49 mhz transmitter that looked a lot like this:

Okay, here are some pics if that helps:

As you can see the shell was damaged , but the internals seem to be fine.

So would any 49mhz transmitter work, or should I try to find one with multiple bands?

I would be eternally grateful to anyone who can help, this was my favorite toy as a kid.

you'll probely not be able to find anything that works. your car is hard soldered and the current radio systems are plug and play. It's easier and cheaper to buy new. Electric cars these days can do 60mph. Have fun. Dennis

So if I got this 4 band transmitter, would there be no chance of it working?

Are you referring to the receiver being soldered?

Yes and also the servos. Also if you check all car radio's are pistol grip. After many years selling and repairing caars today are sors it's hard for me to recommend a $10 fix, but anything is possible. The cars today are so much better. check Tower. Dennis

Well, this one has sentimental value and the only new one like it is over $200 and requires assembly. I'll give it a shot.

Thanks for the help!

Well it doesn't work. But the car is definitely working fine because the wheels twitch occasionally when I turn it on. I have a soldering iron and my brother is an electrician, do you think we could replace the receiver?

I never tried. With parts and labor it would have cost the customer more then it was worth. you have nothing to loose by trying and probility have some fun doing the change. thats what this hobby is all about. Let me know how it goes. Dennis

Do a search on ebay like this, 49 mhz band 4, and you might be surprised to find how many are out there.
