Difference of DSM, DSM2, DSMX???

Default Difference of DSM, DSM2, DSMX???

Im a newb and am looking to purchase used JR12X. What is differences between the three different versions? DSM, DSM2, DSMX

DSM is the original Direct Sequence Spread Spectrum, I don't think air transmitters were ever just straight DSM, my 2.4 GHZ surface radio is the first DSM system (now they are at DSMR for surface)
DSM2 is the Air system, 2nd generation "dual link"
DSMx is a frequency hopping addition to DSM2

This may be an oversimplification, but that's the basics of it, if you want more reading www.spektrumrc.com has lots of it.

If you're looking at a JR, what you see is "JR DSM" which is actually Spektrum DSM2.

I have two JR11Xs and a JR 9503 that are DSMX. (DSMX is the newer protocol but a DSMX transmitter will work with older DSM2 receivers)

Most Spektrum radios will show the operating mode in the display screen IE DSM2 or DSMX

The JR Radios do not so the only way to know is by checking the behaviour of a DSMX receiver as per my video below.

Depending on how old it is the 12X could be DSM2 only or DSMX
