Default Troubleshooting gyro problem

I have a blade 500 3d that I damaged about a year ago

i have fixed all the damaged parts and the helicopter flies okay

but about one minute into every flight (just hovering), the heading starts to creep in approximately 5 degree increments which I correct a few times; then the tail servo freezes and stops responding to transmitter inputs

it was suggested to me that this was an indication of the servo overheating and shutting down

when disconnect and reconnect the battery, operation goes back to normal for about one minute, then the pattern of behavior repeats

i replaced the tail servo, but the problem persists

what should I check next?

GYRO: EFlite G210HL
Servo: Spektrum S400G

These were stock with the Blade 500 3D from the factory; servo is new, gyro is original

thanks

It does sound like its overheating.

With the servo disconnected, is the linkage and pitch change mechanism free of drag and smooth as butter?

Thanks for the help Andy. I checked the movement and linkage disconnected from the servo and it was tight and rough. So I disassembled and reassembled the tail assembly, and now it works without the overheating in the servo. Thanks again
