Default Best high capacity battery type for my Futaba 8UAF Tx

Some time ago I upgraded the 9.6 volt 700 mA NiCad battery pack that came with my Tx to a 3S 2200 mA 9.9 volts Life battery pack and this worked great for quite some time until I left the Tx on which drained the battery and killed it. I have done that in the past with the original Nicads but each time was able to revive them with a couple of deep cycles which of course does not work with the Life batteries. I don't want to get another Life battery so my question is should I opt for a higher capacity NiCad pack or get say a 9.6 volt 1500 mA NiMH pack.
