Default RC Receiver to Car Problems

I have an older RC car that I found and are trying to get back on its wheels.

The car has a Futuba R112JE 2 Channel Receiver
The controller is a Magum Sport FP-T2PB
Novak Reversible Hyperfet ESC
I bought new batteries for car and controller to start as normal maintenance
Both car and remote come on like they are working but no connection between them

Just seeing what I should check now?

Thank you

Check that they are both either on AM or FM, both on 27 or 75mhz and that the channel #s of the crystals match and are installed properly.

Beyond that, toss it and buy a new TX/RX set for $45.

Just curious, how does one install crystals improperly?

TX crystal in the RX and RX crystal in the TX. The only thing identifying TX and RX on the crystals was a self adhesive label/tag that was easily removed. FYI, that radio if sold in the US would be 75 MHz
