Futaba S9001 Coreless or Hitec HS-5475HB Digitals?
Futaba S9001 Coreless @ $30.00 or
Hitec HS-5475HB Digitals? @ $35.00
These servos will go in a 1.20 size ultimate.
Already have decided on throttle and rudder servos.
2 for ailerons and 2 for evelator.
Will be using 6v battery
Price is not much of a consideration between the two.
Thanks,
Mack

Lots of guys swear by their Hitec servos here, but I've had my share of problems w/ them, so I'm slowly phasing them out in my new planes. I've used Futaba 9001 on a 11lbs Saito 150 poweerd Goldberg Bucker Jungmann w/ good results. Have 2 on ailerons and 2 on elevators. These servos also work on 6 volts, which ups the torque to over 60 oz/in.

The digitals have a tighter control loop (Less actual dead band). They will give you better control but will use more battery. The coreless servos will use less battery and probably feel smoother since the torque they develop takes a greater error signal to develop. Ultimately you are going to have to decide for yourself.

RE: Futaba S9001 Coreless or Hitec HS-5475HB Digitals?
I have this exact dilema with a pattern plane. I have used 5475's and they center very well and have given me no problems but others have had the shafts break.
Does anyone know how the 9001's center? Seems like a lot of servo for $30!! Too good to be true?? Anyone?

RE: Futaba S9001 Coreless or Hitec HS-5475HB Digitals?
man...I thought I was the only one having this headache. This is my first forray into high dollar servos and I am having the same issue..I CANT DECIDE!!
Here is what I am looking at:
Futaba 9001 or 9202
Hitec 5645 or the lower 600 series.
The plane is a 25% GP Giles and I have cancelled my order 2 times because I am not sure if I am getting the right servo's
Seems the 9001's are nice but is 54oz of torque going to be enough power on these bigger planes?
any input is appreciated
matt

I know that the HS-5475HB Digitals will use more power thus draining the battery sooner, but does anybody know how much more of a drain it will be?
And does anybody know if the reported S9001 6v stats. (72.1 oz / .18 sec) are correct?

The only time you get into trouble with digitals draining your battery is when there is binding in the controls. The digitals will fight hard to hold their position so any binding will be a large constant drain on the battery.
I don't notice any difference in battery consumption but I don't have digitals on all the surfaces just some.
I assume the 9001 stats are correct for 6V, they look just like the 5475's but they probably won't have the same holding power.

I am planning on using Futaba 9001 and 9202 servos on my Christen Eagle. These are very good coreless servos.

This is the Great Planes Christen. 69" top wing. the 9001 servos are going on throttle and ailerons - one for each aileron. I will also use a 9202 for each elevator half and am debating between a 9202 and 9206 for the rudder. Will probably go with the 9206 on the rudder. I was going to use 9202s on the ailerons but after seeing them in person feel comfortable using the 9001s.

I bought some Futaba (corless) 9001's from Tower for $29 a piece when you buy 3 and compared them to the Hitec 5475 digital (3 pole) which cost $35. The specs are almost identical but the Futaba's turned out to be a much better servo.
Using a home-made pointer and scale the Futaba's returned to center much better than the digital hitec. The Futaba's also had much better resolution, they could move in much smaller increments (about 1/2 the increment of the 5475).
Looks like the 9001 will be my new standard servo.

RE: Futaba S9001 Coreless or Hitec HS-5475HB Digitals?
Just putting a pointer on a servo and watching the output is like checking bettery voltage without a load. It tells you little about how the servo will operate under a load. Any digital servo will produce a greater output at a given input error signal than a non digital servo. This will result in better control. It sometimes will take a bit of getting used to, though
