Default what to buy Futaba vs Airtronix

What would you suggest for a first radio Futaba 6EXA or Airtronics VG6000
I am new to Hoby and building my first few spads. I need a multiple plane radio and would like your opinion of the two radios and the companies ehind then and compatibility issues with 3rd party supplier's equipment.

You answered your own question. If compatibility with 3rd party equipment is important then Futaba is the way to go. Its simply a matter of economics. The Airtronics & JR uses a reverse signal polarity -- this makes them non-compatible with Futaba, Tower, and general Hitec RXs. Hitec does sell 7-channel RXs that you can change the polarity -- I'm not sure that is true of their 8-channel RXs. Other than RXs, all other components are basically compatible as long as the connection leads fit -- the new Airtronic 'Z' connection is compatible. I have one airplane with several different brand servos. (2) Ace servos for airlons, 1 Futaba servo for throttle, 1 Hitec servo for retracts, a JR for rudder, and an airtronics for elevator. They all work fine in my World Models P-40 Warhawk.

Futaba hands down! I have had both, and did not like airtronics or their service. Futaba has always been good to me.

Futuba is the best. But listening to others...it appears that the service is more difficult.

Also, there is a rebate for the next 2 days...so if its going to be Futuba, you might want to decide right away.

Might I suggest having a look at the RD6000 instead of the VG6000... the RD will let you select which "shift" you transmit and can "talk" to any brand of receiver. I've been very happy with mine and have had very good experiences with their customer service folks.

On the contrary if it compatability you are looking for a Airtronics RD6000 because you can switch will run Futaba, JR Airtronics, and Hitec, Futaba will only control Futaba and Hitec receivers. Also Airtronics is generally considered easier to program than the 6XX. If you are willing to spend a little more the Hitec Eclipse and Futab 9 series are even better and have more features. The Hitec will also control all major RX brands.

For the dollar Airtronics is a great value and for a "few dollars more" Airtronics has top of the line Systems and Digital servos. Their service, R&R, has been 110% for me these last 20 years. In closing a quote I like :"Opinions are just that opinions."
