"Knobby" radio with Pics
At a garage sale I purchased a guys complete r/c collection. Three planes, two kits, two engines, three radios and a lot of random stuff. This is the Century 7 by JR This looks to be a really old radio it only has one stick yet it will do ail, rud, elev, throt, flap, ret, and an aux channel. Has anyone ever heard of one of these? What should I expect to sell this for?

You've got a KNOBBY there-HOLD ON to it!
Dear Scott88:
The PIPE Here again...and whatever you do, do NOT discard that JR radio of yours---you've got a KNOBBY radio, the sort I fly with!
Here's a photo of myself flying with one of my early 1980s-era built Ace Silver Seven "non-computer" knobby single stick radios-and having ALL THE AERODYNAMIC CONTROLS ON JUST ONE HAND makes it SO much easier to fly aircraft that NEED co-ordinated aileron and rudder inputs for each and EVERY turn one needs to make, especially WW I and Golden Age aircraft!
Nowadays I'm doing some repairs on my one and ONLY flyable plane, my 1980s vintage Balsa USA Swizzle Stick 40 which crashed due to early morning SOLAR GLARE at my club's field back in September...luckily there was hardly ANY damage to speak of, and I certainly expect to be flying again about Thanksgiving time.
I recently also just finished building my very first COMPUTER single stick radio, based on Gordon Anderson's MICROSTAR encoder assembly which can be seen at http://mstar2k.com/ ...just do a search for "MicroStar single stick" here at RCU and you'll find that there's more than a few people using this VERY nice, and EASILY programmed encoder board, in older single stick radios!
But please do NOT "just get rid of" that knobby JR of yours...perhaps you might even want to start trying to FLY with a knobby radio yourself, and once you DO, you'll NEVER go back to dual stick flying ever again! Just LOVE the separate throttle that a knobby radio always gives the RCers who use them...just like FULL SCALE in that particular feature!
Yours Sincerely,
The PIPE!

You COULD try THIS forum...
Dear Scott-88:
The PIPE here once more...and if you've decided that you REALLY WANT to sell it, howzabout trying at the Yahoo MicroPro and MICROSTAR forum?
A WHOLE lot of guys there that want to get a used knobby radio to stuff a MicroStar encoder, and an FMA RF deck into, are looking for them ALL the time...and that forum is at http://groups.yahoo.com/group/MP8K/ !!!
It's ALSO likely, though, that you COULD find someone who DOES want it as it is, very likely a JR fan who's not too concerned about it being a NON-computer radio...but if all else fails, try the Yahoo MicroPro/MICROSTAR forum to sell that older knobby JR rig...I'd bet SOMEONE could use it to make up a MicroStar with!
Yours Sincerely,
The PIPE!
