New Radio @ Tower
Tower is now carrying Multiplex! Anyone know anything about the Royal? Have an 8U thats getting old. Think the Royal might be up to par with the 9C?

RE: New Radio @ Tower
The consensus seems to be the Evo 9 lies somewhere between the 9C and the 9Z. With 9 fully proportional channels (the 9th channel on the 9C isn't proportional unless you use a PCM receiver, I believe), full synth capability, positive and negative shift, and IMHO a much better architecture for setting up mixes and assigning controls to channels, to me you can't beat it for the price.
If I were you I'd think twice about ordering from Tower, though. Their web site shows the radios as being in stock sometime in December. They've been saying the radios will be in in just another few weeks since sometime in July, so I don't see any reason to believe the December date.

Twice the price? No...
A crystalled 9C with a 9ch PCM receiver is $379. A crystalled RE9 with a 9ch PCM receiver is $439, not even close to twice as much. Adding a 16K CamPac to the 9C (to bring the number of storable models up to a more comparable number) would add another $35, but an even fairer comparison would be with the 64K CamPac--and then the 9C is more expensive!
Few shops have the synthesized versions in stock, and most of them are saying early December; supposedly Royal Hobby has them... though I got a bit better deal on the crystalled RE9 elsewhere.

Multiplex RE9 non-synth at tower (Tx only) - 467.99
http://www2.towerhobbies.com/cgi-bin...I=LXEXV2**&P=7
Futaba 9C transmitter only with module AND CAMPAC at Bruckner's - 259.99
http://www.brucknerhobbies.com/9%20Channel%20Radios.htm
So the RE9 isn't quite twice the price but it isn't far off. The point being, is it a surprise that the RE9 is more capable considering its price?

Tower isn't the best place to buy Multiplex equipment, not if you care about prices. www.nesail.com has the crystalled RE9 in stock with a PCM receiver for $440.
The $270 price at Bruckner's doesn't include a PCM receiver; that would add another $110. Again, not 2x the price.

IMO Tower does a very poor job of describing what you're getting with the different variations on the Multiplex transmitters. That $467.99 includes AT LEAST a receiver, and possibly some servos. From the Tower site you just can't tell.
I do know the 9 channel Evo, synth version, transmitter only (no servos, no receiver) is $416.99. Is that more than a 9C? I'm sure it is, and you're right that for the extra money it should have more capabilities than a 9C. To me the extra functionality is worth the extra money.

RE: Twice the price? No...
FYI: Multiplex uses IPD (Inteligent Pulse Decoding) not PCM. IPD offers faster processing with basically all the features of PCM. BTW... Multiplex invented PCM in the 70's but chose to abandon it in favor of IPD.
In reality the Royal EVO 9 is closer to the 9Z than the 9C. In which case the RE9 is half the price!
Mike.

RE: Twice the price? No...
I have had the EVO 12 Synthesized for about 2 months now, and wouldn't trade it even for the Futaba 9Z, or JR 10X, much better than both in my opion. Feels alot better in your hands, and you get alot more for your dollar, not to mention the ease of programming. had mine at the field yesterday, and one of the guys was commenting on how he would like to try it, so in less than 5 minutes had HIS plane programmed in , and he was up in the air flying with my radio, not to mention he liked it alot better than the JR 8103 he was using, said the plane seemed to fly alot smoother, better control. And di I mention I got the EVO 12 Synthesized for only $524 NEW after taxes, plus no shipping or handeling. Now what radio can you get from JR or Futaba that does as much as the EVO for that Price?

WHY, IS THE EVO GOING TO TUCK YOU INTO BED AND MAKE YOUR DINNER?

No, will not tuck you in bed and make you dinner. But for what you pay for the JR 10X, (2 of them if you fly both planes and helis), or the Futaba 9Z, they should tuck you in bed, make you dinner, clean the house, wash the car, and cut the grass.

I wouldn't want t hem to tuck me in and cook and cut and all that. But there is one tiny little feature that would be great. A tiny little coffee maker for those cold days of flying

What kind of service do you get with Multiplex? I don't see any areas of support in the forums

Not looking in correct forum then. Look in Hitec, Hitec is US distributor for Multiplex, or goto www.multiplexusa.com, or if you have a multiplex radio, and would like to join the Club Profi support group goto http://www.topica.com/lists/clubprofi . It is a forum based support group for Multiplex owners. Now since it was brought up, where is other manufactors websites for support forums? Also, multiplex owners, don't forget, mike can help you alot here and answer most of your questions about the EVO.
