Default Old Airtronics connectors to New "Z" connectors

Greetings,
I just got a new RD8000 for Christmas and was wondering if it is possible to change the servo connectors on my old Airtronics servos to the new Z connector? Has anyone done this? Are their any hidden issues that I need to watch out for or can I just "cut and solder?" I look forward to hearing from you.

The +ve, -ve and signal wires are not in the same position on the two different connectors...I don't recall which two wires you have to swap, but if you do a search of the forums here you should be able to find out. Also, I think Airtronics(www.airtronics.net) has a diagram of the arrangement of the wires. Lastly, Airtronics also sells adapter cables which convert one connector to the other...probably more expensive than doing it yourself though.

BTW, how do you like your new radio? I've got an RD6000 and am trying to convince myself I "need" more channels!

(Here's the link to the Airtronics page I mentioned...looks to me like you have to swap the positions of the +ve and -ve wires...... www.airtronics.net/picture_shows_the_pin.htm)

Thanks for the help. Probably the best way is to spend the $ to get the factory-made adapters.

The radio is great. I don't have anything that needs all of the "bells and whistles" yet, but plans are in the mail! Playing around with it on my bench tells me that I will not be buying another radio for quite a while (which makes my wife happy).

Again, thanks for your help.

I agree with cp140 a few years back I purcashed the RD-600 and had a lot of old style Airtronics coreless BB servos not in use with my Championship and Modual Series systems.. initally I changed the connectors but (now) just use the factory adapters. DO remember when you order though, that Airtronics has one style that enables you to use their "old style" servos with the new systems with Z connectors but ALSO offer an adapter enabling you to use the new "Z" connects on their older radios. I appreciate the advice. I'll make sure to double-check my order so that I get the right ones.

It's really east to do......you need to swap the + and - wires then grind or sand off the 3 alignment pins....Here is a link with all the info you need. The only trouble with the adapters is first they are expensive A?ND give you a couple of more connectors to fail. Try to adapt one or two and you will see how easy it is.Goodluck
