Default "I get the idiot award" !

I mistakenly pluged in the battery into my JR 642 in reverse polarity, (the alignment tab is broken off). The fuse is not blown but it will not boot up and will not transmit. Am I doomed ?

HELP !!!!!

Nope, all is not lost. BUT, you will need to send it to Danny at Horizon . What has happened is that you have blown a regulator IC and in all likelihood a diode and possibly a tranny.

It shouldnt cost too much to resurrect the set, neither will it be too expensive. Get in touch with Horizon to get an estimate.

uhh, I gotta ask you Y you went JR.

I mean, JR is cool, but there are so many hassles, such as not being able to use a quick charger, possibility of frying this, frying that, and having to put up with LEDs on JR Quattros.

The quick charger works great on all my JR Tx's. Have yet to blow anything, including a fuse. Even a Futaba will be damaged if you install the battery in backwards.

I know you're quite young, but you seem to have some real misconceptions of JR radios. I'd suggest waiting until you've tried one before coming to an opinion about them. They're a high-quality product--at least as good as Futaba.

Can't plug a Futaba in backwards... Uses a servo-style plug with the tab and everything.

JEanes,

All my Jr's will quick charge, but I try to avoid it. Luckilly it is a JR! Horizon service is very difficult to beat. Just call them up and they are quite helpful what to do. Ask the for a new charger tab while your at it!

Idiot awards are not relegated to those who fry their radios. Some us of get it for surgically removing body parts with propellers.

A friend of mine who did not know the difference charged one of my JR-388 for 16 hrs with a Futaba standard charger. It was flat "O" when I checked it. I charger it the correct polarity long enough to get my field charger to detect it and then charged it with the field charger (800ma) until the charger cut off. The transmitter is still in use and the batteries are still ok. It has been about 6 mo now. Take a chance and try it.

Good Luck

Lee

I looked at someones JR a while ago...same problem.
It turned out that the battery had shorted 1st so replacing it fixed the problem.
Does the battery have any juice in it still?
