Default Antenna Replacement

How difficult is it to replace an antenna? My Futaba receiver antenna broke during a crash about 6 inches from the receiver. I've also heard about soldering the two parts back together. Is that possible or advisable?

Default RE: Antenna Replacement

It's doable, and I've never had a problem doing it. (both replacing the antenna and fixing a broken one) Just make sure you do a good job, and don't wind up with a cold solder joint. I find it easiler to solder the broken wire back together, btw. That way, you don't have to worry about getting too close to the board. Put a bit of heatshrink over the joint, and you're good to go.

Btw, if the crash was a bad one, you should be sure to do a range check, engine on and engine off before flying it again in another (or the repaired) plane. It's possible to have a crack or something on the RX board that only shows up under vibration.
