Very little info available on the web on the JR radio. All I have seen is advertising, no online manual anywhere that I can find. If one has a lot of JR RX's I'd say the JR is a better choice. Likewise, if you have a lot of Futaba RX's, the Futaba is probably a better choice. If one wants the better radio regardless of their existing gear, I'd lean toward the Futaba as their radio software tends to be more advanced than JRs. However, I'm sure both the Futaba and JR 9ch radios are good radios.

I'll start

I fly Futaba ... 9CAP currently.

I believe JR may have the better radio ... but I don't need anything better ... I need more skill on the sticks ... and a better radio won't help.

I also believe JR, Futaba, Multiplex, Graupner (sp) and Hitec, to name a few, make good radios.
It's a matter of features needed along with convenience or ease of use. The ease of use sometimes falls in what you are accustomed to.

How much money you got ???
How much skill you got ???

What does need have to do with anything .... buy what turns you on.
Like women ... It's the looks and feel ( did I say that ?)

Not another Futaba vs. JR thread! [:@] Buy what you like -- after all every dollar spent on this hobby comes from disposable income...

How can one expect an informed opinion based on actual experience with the product when very few people have a 9X, and even fewer have both a 9X and a 9C? If you want to be an early adopter, you've got to be willing to move ahead without the benefit of others' experiences.

This is a contest about two second class radios. Where I live the Futaba is £300, the JR is £350. For £345 (or £390 with synthesiser) you can get a Multiplex Royal Evo whose software just buries the Japanese radios. A friend of mine traded in his 9C to get an Evo, and I have been in my local shop when heli fliers have been in trading in their JRPCM10 for an Evo.

Harry it's only one second class radio here in the states. Horizon is still protecting us from the 9x here...

I fly JR and would like to get the new 9x when it comes out but I'm not so sure one is better than the other. I have to admit though that the flash memory card ability of the 9c is a huge plus for that radio. I currently have a 8103 and have long ago filled up the 10 memory slots. So now I constantly swap in setups from my computer but that is getting old. The 20 slot memory of the 9x will be nice but I could probably fill all of them up.
If JR won't/can't put a flash memory card within the Tx why not develop a TRUE data safe. A small box with some sort of flash memory card in it that you can carry around with you, have lots of memory slots and the ability to swap setups between it and the Tx via the buddy box cord. Not as easy as a module within the Tx but better than nothing.

Current rant over. In any case, I like the feel of the JR stick assemblies better and their programming tree. Again personal preference. I have flown another members 9c and it was nice also.

I got to play with one of the Multiplex RE9s at the NW Model Expo. My index fingers are 3.5 inches long and they'd need another inch just to reach the RE's switches. Not to mention the thing's so thin, and then there's molded holes for your fingers... Really doesn't feel like you're holding anything. Ick.

I doubt that many have own both to tell which is better. Either one will be just as good. I got the 9C because I have better support at my location. As simple as that.......

GBR2,

There is a project that MacGregors is working on in conjunction with JR. Its called dataXchange and there are a few posts regarding it. The current version ( undergoing Beta testing ) allows you to copy models to a PC, convert them between sets , etc etc. We are currently waiting final data from JR so that the 9X is incorporated into the system. The next stage will be a CE device for palmtops etc.

Yep, I know about the DataXchange. I've had several emails back and forth with Mark Christy. Looking forward to it finally coming out. It will be a VAST improvement on the current DataSafe software.

Going back to the 9x vs 9c question, while I think either system will be excellent and it will come down to personal preference, doesn't the 9c only have 9 channels in PCM mode but only 8 channels if used with an FM receiver? I would assume the 9x would be 9 channels no matter what the modulation as is the current 8103.
