Futaba 9 vap - Please post.
hi guys,
I have a second hand Futaba 9 VAP with 40 mhz module. I would like to know where you place it as far as Futaba tx.s concerned? What I mean is, Should I go for a 9CAP if I decide to buy a brand new one. or a 7CAP or 9 CAP will be better after 9VAP..... ( Also we have a new comer from Graupner(JR) here in Europe - MC 19 - 10 ch PCM-PPM tx which we can consider to get)
MyTx is reading different Volts. Fresh charged battery shows 10.4 V which is normal I believe. Then after 10 min. it is down to 9.6 then another 5 min it is down to 9.2 ... 9 V. Then suddenly it jumps back to 10.4 V. Ä°s it a battery defect or my Tx is not normal....... I havent used it for flight yet. Ä°f Tx is defected then I would consider buying a new one instead of paying for repair.
I would also like to have some info about 9 VAP's How old are they? And How reliable are they? Can I use it with newer synt. modules?
I have another tx a simple Graupner mc12 with 4 ch which I currently use. But my needs are growing I have to use tx with more ch.s....
Thanks for the replies in advance..
Regards.

Futaba 9 VAP was a great radio during its days. That was something like mid from 80's to early 90's.
I have one from 1991. It came originally with single conversion PCM receiver, but the TX is compatible with modern Futaba dual conversion PC1024 receivers.
I have also a 9 ZAP and I can use 9 VAP module in 9 ZAP and vice versa, however synth module does not work with 9 VAP.
There are some issues where 9 CAP outperforms 9 VAP.
9 VAP:
- only 6 model memories and no Campack.
- mechanical trims instead of digital trims (still perfectly usable but a little more work when changing models)
- no flight modes
- little less functions, but enough for most people if chopper modes are not needed
On the other hand the mechanical quality of 9 VAP is far better than of modern Futaba TX's. It was still made in Japan, not in Taiwan as new models.
9 VAP is very reliable if it is well kept. There are cases that aileron and/or rudder pot cables have broken because of bending (while elev and trottle have been used)
10.4 V after charging is not very good, it should be over 11 V, if the battery is in good condition.
Just replace the TX battery and try again.

Hi Ini,
Thank you very much for your reply.
As new graupner Mc 19 will be available after September in Switzerland, I will definitly get a Futaba 9 CAP.
As of 9VAP, I will it try with new batt.
Regards.
