Default best JR radio for Ultra Stick 40

I love my JR 421EX, but it does not perform many of the functions I would like on my Ultra stick. I'm sold on JR, so I would like to purchase another one with more channels. (preferably PCM compatable) I would like to stay under 250 if possible. Whats my best bet.

Find a 8103 TX only, that is a great choice! And you can use your existing equip.

The 8103 is a little out of my price range. How is the 652 or the 662?

I picked up a older JR 347 and three receivers for $ 150. It's a great radio and I was able to program all functions on my quad wing ulta stick. You can get pretty creative with the programing if you have the mind for it. I feel real lucky to of found it, and I'm sure there are others out there. You need to have at least 7 channels to really take advantage of all you can do with the ultra stick, so the 652 and the 662 won't do.( you have four servo's in the wing, and you don't want to use any Y harnesses). The 8103 would also do if you can get a deal. Good luck

You would know, wouldn't you?
Did yours ever sell? Seems like the ad was around for quite a while.

Thanks for all of the replies. I was unable to find the 8103 for anything less that $290, so so the info on the older JR was just what I was looking for! Thanks again!

Well,
have I got a deal for you Sgt. I also love my 421ex but my NEW 8103 w/digital trims is more than I'll ever need. I'd let it go for $275 shipped. Also have PCM and FM rcvrs , a 949 I think and something else like that. I'll have to check. Channel 60.

Let's go flying.

I'd hold out for an 8103. I have had both a 347 and an 8103. The 347 was a nice radio, but the 8103 is *so* much more intuitive to program... has a nicer screen... more model memories... more flexible... etc...

And YES you should be able to find the non-DT version in the swapshop for under $250. (I postd my old one for $200! It went quick. ) Keep your eyes open and a ready hand on your wallet.

Another transmitter you should consider is the JR XP783. The 783 would be more programmable than the 347. You should be able to pick one up for $150 to $200. But I would still shoot for a 8103 and a 783 as a second choice.

Default JR Radio

The new JR 378 is about the same as the 783 except it doesn't have the plug in frequency modules. It has nearly all the functions as the 8103. Check the Horizon web site for a function list.

I was in a similar dilemma a couple of weeks ago. I've been a JR flyer since I got into the hobby. Started with a JLine Quattro, then moved up to an XF631 (which I obtained on eBay, TX only). About 2 months ago I started to get radio envy (not having expo on my radio and not being able to setup flaperon/elevator mix). While the 631 was a good mid level radio, it didn't have nearly as many features as the 7-10 channel computer radios out there. I did quite a bit of looking, and finally got my list down to the JR X-378, the JR XP-8103, the Futaba 8U, the Futaba 9C, the Hitec Eclipse 7, and the yet to be released Multiplex Evo Royal. After much research, I opted for the Futaba 9CA. If you get the TX alone, it can be found new for $239-$259 brand new. Featurewise, it's more powerful than the 8103 and from what I can tell easier to program. If you are considering a used 8103 (which I was), make sure to ask if it's the DT (digital trim) model. Older 8103 have standard trim, and since I've gotten used to digital trim on my 631, I think it'd be a step backwards. Luckily all my flight packs with the exception of my parkflyer are shift selectable (so they'll work with either JR/Airtronics or Hitec/Futaba) so my investment in RXs is safe.
