Default JR vs. Futaba --- which is best?

All of the guys I fly with are using Futaba equipment. I, on the other hand, am using older JR equipment.
I am considering upgrading my equipment and am thinking of switching to Futaba so that if I need to borrow a part (servo, rx, etc.) I can bum off of my buddies and vice versa.
I currently have a JR Max computer radio (6 channel), 327 receiver, and 507 servos.
I am considering going to a JR 652 or a Futaba t6xa.
I have flown Hobbico Avistars, Spectrum, and am currently building a TF P-51D.
Which way should I go?

I'd look at the JR 6103. It's got great features and a great buy.

Go to the hobby shop, hold each radio, play with the programing, and decide based on that. That's the only way to decide which is best for you.

FWIW, everything but the receivers are compatible between the two with a few exotic exceptions.

The Futaba 6XA is a great radio, but it is phasing out. New models are 6EXA or the 7C. I use Futaba, but JR is a fine brand also.

I would suggest you buy the brand which is more common in your area. What radio gear would be easier to get recievers / servo's for new models? What brand do most people at your club fly?
I use JR for the reasons I mentioned above.

They are both excellent radios, and I've flow with both extensively.

It would be smarter to stick with Futaba since your buddies fly that brand, and as you point out, being able to borrow and share with your friends is helpful. You really won't go wrong either way.

Both radios are very good. In the USA they have different shifts though so are not compatable, JR uses positive shift, Futaba uses negative shift and so you must use a receiver compatable with the transmitter. You can buy other brands of receivers that will work with either shift if you so desire.
