Default Old FG Radio Battery Help

I have several older Futaba FG radios. The problem is that the batteries are shote, being over 10 years old. I know i can order them from tower hobbies for 32 bucks, but i dont want to spend that much. I have cycled them, but it didn't help much. I have no experience making battery packs. Does anyone have any suggestions?

You can rebuild your own battery packs for them. Open the old pack and salvage the dummy cell (essentially an empty metal cylinder with caps) You simply solder together a set of 8 AA NiCds, add the dummy cell to obtain the 3X3 flat pack shape, solder on the new connector wires (Might have problems getting a new connector.. but you do NEED a new connector) glue the cells together with RTV ( rubber band to popsicle sticks or similar to get the cells to stay TIGHTLY together) and wrap with some electric tape.

It costs about $1.50 to $2.50 a cell for the NiCds...
