RE: Flying with retracted antenna ETOC
A couple of years ago, I made a full flight with my old T6XA with the antenna fully closed and did not experienced any interference or loss of signal. I noticed it was fully closed when it was time to actually close it after the flight. It was a normal flight with normal air distances and nothing special happened.
The plane was a GP Extra 300S 40 with all Futaba standard gear.

Operating with a collapsed antenna will certainly cause excessive heat to build up in the output transistor. The damage may not be catostrophic but certainly does it no good and will definately accelerate the failure rate. Its kind of like driving your car with the brake on, it will go but cause problems sooner or later.

Remeber these were only 2-3 minute timed (forget exactly) flights, and with the antenna pulled out 1 section it wouldnt be any different than doing a 2 minute range check. Your not gonna hurt it in that amount of time

????? Do you fully extend the antenna when you are setting up a plane on the bench ???? I have been flying indoors for awhile and always fly with only the first section pulled out. These are not real power houses on the transmitting so I would think heat build up would not be of the slightest concern.
