HiTec 5995 Digitals Any word or info?
It's being bandied about on several mailing lists that HiTec is going to be bringing out a STUPIDLY strong standard-case sized servo called the 5995. Reputed specs are 335 ounces of torque and .15 seconds of transit on 6.0 volts, with an all up weight of about 2.2 ounces and casing size approximately the same dimensions as the JR 8611's.
This is the first I've heard about these servos, though they apparently have been in field-test mode for a little while.
Anyone have any information on them, production dates, features, or other specs/stats, pricing, PICTURES?????
TIA

Hi Kris^,
There is a thread by Mike at Hitec on these servos. They sound promising and should be released in July or so. I asked Mike what the stall current was of the 5945 servo to compare ganged 5945's to one 5995 but haven't heard back yet.

I have held the servo at RCX. Kris's specs in post #1 are correct except the weight which I think was 1.8 oz and not 2.2 oz. Standard size servo. Uses titanium gearset. 330 oz/in torque. .15 transit.
this is a breakthrough servo in terms of its technology. From what I understand these should be on the street in the next 3-4 months give or take a bit.

is there anyway that a servo could be built with a worm gear output - this would be perfect for flying stabs. on turbine jets.

Whatever the "thing" is, it's directly in line with the output shaft. Perhaps that is where they put the lower bearing (talk about WIDE spacing ) Perhaps it's a second output location. Perhaps its a place to use an allen wrench to hold the servo from rotating it's arm and madly smashing all other competing brand servos into small piles of debris. . . .
In reality, it looks like a mounting lug, such as found on a Video Camera, where you can attach driven objects for a "double shear" support on the servos casing. The "Thing" is definitely brass, and appears to be threaded. Looking at pictures on the HiTec Japanese website, it shows the 5995 using this bottom "thing" for centering a plate driven by the output shaft, so that the driven item pivots on two points off the servo.

Guess we'll have to wait to find out for sure.

The pictures on the Japanese site is of the HSR-5995, "R" designates robotic aplications... The mounting lug will be omitted on the aircraft version and there will be a CNC aluminum heat sink center section in lieu of the engineers plastic.
The titanium gear set is awesome there appears to be ZERO slop... Were testing one now and thus far I am very impressed...
Stall current is just under 3 Amps as opposed to the 5945's 2.165A and JR's DS-8611 at 2.43A with two regulated 4400mAh Lithium packs providing 5.8V under load.
