Pete currently has some old servo's of mine for refurbishing. He seems to be very busy but is definitely still in business. It's the old problem - if you're good, people will come to you. Then you get busy. Then you can't give the service you would like. Then your reputation suffers.

Pete is inundated at the moment from the last email he sent me (a few days ago). Hopefully he will get his head above water soon.

O.K.

I was checking. I would like to send two radios to him to check them and replace the batteries.

I haven't seen any ads in MA.

Thank you,

Though i've used Pete Waters and he is good, Radio South has an excellent reputation as well. Tony Stillman has also taken over for Pete writing the Radio column in R/C Report.

I think you'll be pleased with either shop.

It is hard when you are pretty much a one man operation to stand and talk on the phone while the paying customers wait.
Usually Pete is real good about it ,but I have heard him on the phone ,when things get circular or the questions seem a bit trivial. He pretty much lets you know when hes had enough .
I would far rather send my gear to probably the most experienced tech in the biz than to a place where I have no idea who will be doing the work.
Pete has been doing these radios for 40 years and I have yet to hear of a legitimate complaint on his work . It would be so nice if the BIG service operations were the same.

Default Kraft Midwest email address

I would like his email address to ask him a question regarding costs without tying him up on the phone.

Does anyone have it?

Thank you,

Brian

Default Pete's email

From his ad in R/C Report:

p****[email protected] is right out of his ad.

OK. I've edited this thing 3 times and don't know why it does this. Should be

p****ers where the asterisks are.

From the May issue.

Default Confused

OK. I tried but the message keeps plugging in the stars. Why? I dunno.

Let's try this. It is waters with a p and a t in front of it.

Now

How about p****ers?

Ah hell. Just shoot me and end my frustrations.

I think you get the picture. Now for a cold beer.

bye

Oh well. Sounds like Pete is at least a strong "R" or maybe an "X" rated email address.

Thanks LF

I found this post on a Google search for "Kraft Midwest", wanting an answer to the original question ( is the business still in business?). Past 2 issues of RC Report (jan, feb 2003) do NOT have any ads for Kraft, so me thinks Pete may have decided to retire.
To those who may have critisied him for being impatient on the telephone; I have met with him several times in the past and can attest to how busy he is, and how devoted he is to this hobby and aviation, and I get the impression he really doesn't need the money from his repair business but kept it going as a service to us in the hobby. His prices have always been VERY reasonable, and if you have to ask for an estimate, well it's a waste of time to do so. He will charge you what the job is worth, no more, and maybe less.
Pete, if you ARE retired, hope you have a long and healthy retirement.
Jim Jager, Kalamazoo, MI
NOTE, I just sent e-mail to Pete, using address from above (thanks to the lady, for figuring out what was wrong with previous postings), and will update this post when I get an answer from the man himself.

Just got an e-mail from Pete, who is in Florida for the winter. His reply to my questione whether or not he is still in business (and if he could replace my rx wire with a black one):

" I am, and in Florida for 4 months, and here, I forgot to pack the black wire, got red, white and blue...darn it!

I'll see if I can get in touch with Pete. As far as I know he still keeps his plane at the same airport we fly from . (1:1)

Thanks LF,

Feeling pretty stupid at the moment. I did email and phone the number Pete had listed in Florida but don't want to bug a guy whose on vacation. Really just want to make sure that my gear is being tended too and isn't sitting somewhere in a Northville USPS location or worse.

If you'd be so kind as to keep me posted I'd appreciate it LF.

You can email me at [email protected].

Thanks! ;-)

Default where is Waldo

Pete is a great repairman and has been noted before, he is a one band band.
I just sent two of my 20 year old 8 ch Futaba FP-T8SGA-P transmitters to Tony Stillman at Radio South. He tuned um up and returned in good time. Tony also does most of the work himself.
I fly on a ham band and Mode I and both Tony and Pete have taken good care of me.

I send all of my Airtronics equipment back to the factory because of the good people there. Bobby Tom is a world class modeler in Aircraft, boat and cars and as such he understands the importance of excellence service. Bobby is the service mgr. at Airtronics.
Cannot say much for JR or Futaba factory service.
Brian
