FUTABA SERVICE- unreal prices
received a quote ( just a estimate- actual repair prices could be higher) from Hobby Services .
The Gimbal Stick mechanism ( Rudder-Throttle)on my 6 year old Transmitter was inop.( broken) Also they diagnosed a bad Transistor.
OK, total Estimate of repairs, $ 98.00. A new Transmitter ( 6 - YG ) is $ 79.00 from several sources, that is brand new, not used and repaired. What would you do?
I ordered a brand new ( 6 XAS) for less the what the repair would have been. I just cannot believe the way them guy's trying to rip us off..............................................

I sent my Airtronics in for a new internal battery, tune-up and tweak with a new antenna. I could not believe the bill! I was something like $28. Needless to say, one more feather in Airtronic's cap. The best radio service I have ever had.

RE: FUTABA SERVICE- unreal prices
You have an item you can buy new for $79, it had moderate damage that would be labor intensive to repair, and you are surprised the estimate to repair was more than $79? What were you expecting? $20? Quite honestly I don't see $98 as unreasonable for tearing a TX apart, replacing the gimble, including parts costs, calibrate, and then putting it all back together. The new value of the TX has nothing to do with how long (i.e. read labor costs) it will take to repair. What the quote did is provide you with information... information you used to decide you were better off purchasing a new radio as opposed to investing in your existing system. Besides, a $79 anything is pretty much disposable.
TLH101... Futaba checkup rates are similar. Bust your gimble and send the radio to Airtronics. Doubt they will fix that for $28.

JohnW is correct, that type of repair would be very labor intensive. The quoted price is quite within reason. I dare say that a similar repair would be just as costly from any other company.

JohnW,
That included an internal battery, new antenna and shipping back to me.
Oh yea, also included a reload of the software because I turned it off without the card installed, and scrambled it.

I was thought, if you don't honor and respect the penny, your not worth the Dollar.

Sent an RX to Futaba. No trouble was found and the cost with shipping $34.00. Sent a Transmitter to HITEC because it fell of the shelf and both gimbles were broken. Returned within one week and repair including shipping was $26.00.
Guess which I will buy in the future!

Hey T Hill, need a address or Ph. # for radio south.
may be the cost of a new gimbal at RADIO SOUTH is less then the $ 55.00, thats what they want at FUTABA.
Hard to belive, by the looks of it it should not be more then $ 10.00, maybe they think it's a
Diamant.
Yes positively, my next radio systen will NOT be a Futaba Brand, looking at a XP 9303 at this time.............................................. .......

Replacing a transistor and gimbal is labour intensive? Any Electronics tech that gets paid more than minimum wage could do that type of repair in less than 10 minutes. With something like that you're better off hitting the swap sheets and doing it yourself (Though replacing a transistor is out of most people league)

RE: FUTABA SERVICE- unreal prices
Guys, one factor that you need to take into consideration is where do the replacement stick assemblies come from ? If from overseas then you have to tak einto account shipping costs and taxes.
Yes, it may only take 10 minutes to replace the assembly but then you have to calibrate the stick, if you calibrate one stick then you have to do the other, test it all to make certain that all is well.
Not that I am trying to justify the prices as I work for the opposition......
