FUTABA’S REVOLUTIONARY 14MZ RADIO SYSTEM OPENS A NEW ERA IN RC FLYING- yadda yadda yadda....

Article and pics here:
http://www.flyrc.com/articles/SNEAKP...aba_14MZ.shtml

And here:
http://www.14mz.com/

Double the resolution of PCM 1024, the 14MZ's breakthrough PCM G3 2048 enables servos to pick up even the slightest stick movements. It's enhanced by a frame rate that's 40% faster than Futaba's 9Z — much more data transmits in a much shorter time. The result? Real-Time Response…response so good, it feels like it's happening in real time!

Cost breakdown:

Radio - $500
Microshaft OS - $1699.99 plus they get to keep any planes you use with the radio.

I will wait for the Linux version-

Then I can use better voice commands like "Land Plane" or "Perform IMAC Routine"

I'm with you broken. I don't care what Futaba says I wouldn't trust my radio if it had anything to do with Microsoft. I can just see it now. You are flying that $6,000 bird along coming around for a low pass and then at the instant you plane it coming toward the pits some hacker across the world is getting in through your radio signal and flies your plane into your clubs shack.

Gives a new meaning to the dreaded "blue screen of death" Although I am not sure that it can be "remotely hacked"- Still, I would try one if the price were lower...

I would really like to know what checks they have on the voice commands. Can you imagine putting your plane into a spin and then someone in the pits yells "Hey Bob lets tune it"...."Full Throttle". Brings a new meaning to the term shot down. Soon we will be seeing crash post saying I was "Yelled down".

It still amazes me that radio (and mobile phone for that fact ) manufactures seem to love to add all sorts of bells and whistle's when in all reality 99.9 % of customers would snap up a radio/mobile that has 100% coverage or reception 100% of the time.... Still at least with the 14mz after good old Bob has shot you down from the pits (again!!) you will be able to take a photo of the wreckage and display it on your TX in color.....great.

Well, if you can talk to it and give it voice commands, you (I) won't look so stupid when you're (I'm) out there talking to yourself (myself). When the cussing starts, you can just tell the guys that's the way you got if from Futaba. You f(&8ing piece of sh*%, I said land, not hit the sand..

Why do we need software to translate your thumb movements into comands? Oh yea, they probably require you to register online to make it work, requiring you to give them all your personall information AND it allows them to make it obsolete in a year requiring that you buy another one to replace it! I think the term is "SUCKER!"

Just be glad the Tx does not talk back like- (nice move) - (you call that a loop- watch me do it right) etc....

Better yet maybe we could get it to R2D2 beep...

Or even better-: Bwoop Bwoop Pull Up-Pull Up......

All said and done after reading the websites- I do allot of mixing on my radio and I really wish mine could do what that one does.... I have even resorted to wiring a few switches of my own into my old Futaba 6 channel just to get more out of it...

Dam shame that they put WinCE on it- or wince as I like to call it [:@]

I said "hold" not "fold"
I said "roll" not "goal"
I said "down" not "round"
I said "inverted" not "diverted"
I said "knife edge" not "dive edge"
I said "snap" not "splat"

Well, it'll keep the excuses coming for a long, long time.

I wonder if the operating system is "stable"?

If it works anything like my computer at home(which I just sold to pay for the @#$@#$! radio), Then everytime I move the sticks, it just stops doing anything. Splat!

I wonder if Realflight G3 works on it..... or maybe AFP..... ? So, you don't need a Tx cable to plug in...... ?

Better make coffee too for that price!

Maybe we can use the NEW radio to get E-Mail, News updates, Instant messges, and use the OLD radios to fly the airplane!

I hope the people from JR and Hitec etc are reading this.. Best they hurry down to RnD and tell em to Ctrl-Alt-Del on MS. Most of the boys down at the field already suffer from "memory leakage"

What's the use of having a full-color touch screen with all the embellishments if you can't even see it while flying?

I think it is an example of industry taking us where we don't want to go. So much could be done to radios to make them the way they want but instead they do this. Computers and software jerk us around so much in life, we don't want it or need it in a radio for a model airplane. Microsoft and its monopoly has to invade us in every corner, it's just insulting. I just put on MS Office for a computer at work. NOW they require MICROSOFT.NET, Email, address, and other personal information to register. WHO DO THEY THINK THEY ARE! Now they are in our R/C STUFF! NO! HELLLL NOOO! I don't buy Futaba radios for poor tech suport I got a while back. I was going to try them again but I WILL NOT give money to them if the company is heading this direction.

Hey guys, give it a break! Dont kill it off before you have tried it! Think the CE OS is pretty stable. After all, you are going to run JUST the operation system in an isolated machine, not load up lots of non-Microsoft software and suft the net getting viruses or so. So relax.

Love the idea with storing model data on a Flash Card. That way you are never limited to the radios memory and upgrading to a bigger card is very cheap these days. Nice color screen, hopefully easy to read. The switch customizing is cool, though not up to the stuff Robbe`s 14+ kit-radios are capable of.

The voice commands; i dont see the point ....as you said, the cost of mis-translation might be the loss of the entire aircraft. Also, its probably much slower than just flipping a switch anyway. Even if its almost instand, switching is always quicker then you saying "landing gear down"...

Not a word of the *actual* programming on offer...just a list of fancy new stuff. Guess there aint much more to do program-wise in the radio world, unless some engineer invents like a new airplane tail configuration that needs special mixing or so..(hmm..a "G-tail" would be cool )

I think there are two "systems" in place. The normal control of your plane is done through Futaba's proprietary chip and is not dependent on Windows CE. The Windows op-system is handling all the bells and whistles like the nice color screen, menus, playing back sound bites, displaying pictures etc. It's not involved in the actual control of your plane.
