Hitec eclipse
I'm thinking about purchasing the Hitec Eclipse with the spectra module. It seems that the mailorder cost of $220 is pretty reasonable for this radio that should handle our gas, park flyers and eventually sailplanes. Am I missing something or is this really the best deal out there? Are there important features that this radio is missing that other radios have?

I just wrote you 6 paragraphs on what I like on this radio, then my connection froze up and I lost it all.
Bottom line...between all the flight modes and P-mix's, able to use it with any of my receivers on any channel- I love it. So far I have setups for 2 gliders, one 4 channel electric, one helicopter and someday I'll finish my 1/4scale Cub hanging above me. The Spectra module gets warm and drains the battery faster than a normal module. If you like to fly ALL day, get a nimh battery pack. Hitec support is great- I never got emails answered from airtronics....
You can send the Eclipse back for future software and hardware upgrades- more mixes and PCM modulation.
Some people hold their nose and say it only has 7 model memory.
If I EVER get to the point that I have 8 models, all built, all flight ready, all un-crashed,.... I'll just go out and treat myself to new radio. I don't see that happening soon...... Your mileage may vary.

Boy Mike I wish I could have the answer for that. I know it's transmitted and the received signal. I use it in my top dollar aircrafts. It cost more. I guess it's like buying Insurance. If you buy it I hope it works in this case. I hope it will keep my planes in the air , and not in the dirt. It's no fun picking up a plane in pieces after getting hit from something. Maybe someone like Dave Harmon or Harry C. can help. They are smarter when it comes to radio answers.
Thanks,
Steve

Here's a good page describing ppm and pcm in the rc radio
note- pcm is also how cd's and dvd information is handled- but it's a different word length and encoding scheme.
