14 mz freq change to fly abroad not posserble...
Hi
I live in the UK and fly abroad regulary. I would like to buy a 14 MZ but I am told that if I want to change from 35mhz to 72mhz I can't do it as its not just as simple as changing the module and RX. Apparently the tx will only work on the frequencys that are used in the country of sale is that right?
Thanks
jason

RE: 14 mz freq change to fly abroad not posserble...
Jason,
I have heard various stories about changing bands. The guy from West London models said all you had to do was change the module. Futaba have marketed the radio as "region locked" so simply changing the module wont allow you to change band there must be something else done to it in order to change bands. However I have read some threads from guys in Asia who have tried changing just the module and apparently it changed band no problem with no other tinkering neccessary. Its still a bit of a grey area as to exactly what is true.... I for one could see absolutely no sense in marketing a radio of this quality and having to send the bloody thing in to have the band changed by some mysterious voodoo method by Ripmax each time you wanted to fly abroad. And then have to do it all again when you returned to get the thing to transmit on your home frequency again.
The 14 is a superb radio but this and the complexity of doing a simple Elevon mix which is used commonly in jets is a nighmare! If Futaba is reading this you need to sort this for a fuure firmware upgrade!!
