Removing the flap switch - RD8000
i need to replace the 3 position flap switch on my rd8000. it looks like it takes a special tool. the "nut" on the outside of the trans is round and smooth with a small slot on opposite ends. picture a screw with a flat head slot, with a toggle swith coming out of the middle!
i tried to work it with a knife with no success.
by the way would a 3 position switch from RadioShak work as a replacement?

RE: Removing the flap switch - RD8000
I recall reading a thread about this very topic...one suggestion would be to get an extra set of hands to hold the TX while you put the tips of two small screwdrivers into the slots and see if you can get it loose that way. The other option might be to open the case and see if you can free it up from the inside. That is, there might be a nut on the inside of the case.

i had the case open. the switch, which is rectangular, sits in a molded section of the housing.
i got it off late yesterday. took a dremel with a cut off wheel and basically cut a slot through the whole works. after that, for some reason, i could spin that fancy nut off by hand!
still wondering- can a switch for Radio Shack work as a replacement?

Wow , i guess that is one way to remove the switch. i use a small pair of needle nose pliers opened up just enough to fit the slots.

called Airtronics today. a company used to make a special tool for this. basically a screw driver with a rubber tube at the end. hard enough to not collapse, but soft enough to press into the slots.
he told me that a switch from radio shack would work.
