Default Hitec 225 MG

Hello, I'm in the process of putting together a 63" ws Extra 300. I've mounted a OS Max .90 two stroke on the nose. After seeing a few of the same type planes with .90's mounted, most seem to need tail weight to get the proper CG. I was wondering if dual 225mg mounted in the tail will be enough servo for this size airframe. If i need to add further tail weight i can always open up the holes i cut in the rear fuse and use standard size servos.
After reading of the failures of the 225MG's i am a bit concerned on using them on this plane.

Thanks,
John

I certainly wouldn't risk it -- the 225s are very fragile servos and not suited (IMHO) for any plane weighing more than 2-3 lbs.

And even if you decided to go for the 225, don't waste your money on the MG version, the regular nylon-geared one is actually just as durable (or lacking in durability) as the MG one. When the gearset breaks (again) it's always the little nylon cog driven by the motor that fails in both types. With the MG version you're paying a lot more money for nothing except a little more weight.

Always a counterpoint, I suppose. I've had 225MG's in my Morris Sudokhoi since it was built. Going on 3 years now and it's been yanked and banked plenty. No failures. Then again, it only weighs 5.5 lbs. Looks like your mileage may vary with these servos, but I've had nothing but good luck.

I had a couple of 225mg servos on elevators in a 90 size Aeroworks Edge 540. They would never center in the same place twice. I took them back to LHS and ordered a couple of JR 3421 digitals. The extra cost was well worth it!

I use the 5245MG's which are the digital version of the 225MG in my Super Diablotin that uses a Hacker B50XL and weighs about 6.5 -7 lbs with no issues.

The digitals will provided more precise centering and resolution than the analog.

I've pretty much given up on the 225's for my racing planes. They definately could handle the stress, but centering was definately an issue. The JR 3421 is a fantastic servo, although expensive. The 3121 (coreless non digital) is also a very good servo. Lately I've been using the Futaba 9650 and really like it.

I have two 225MG's on the elevator of my 1/3 scale Fly Baby bipe. I have been flying about it two years now
