6 volts
I did some research on this topic and came up with negative results. Futaba tech support says 4.8 packs only. I ran a thread a while ago about this and I did find a person running the 350 and 351 on a 5 cell pack with no problems. I told him what Ann Marie Cross relayed to me and he went back to a 4 cell pack. All Futaba equipment handles 6 volts just fine except there" new" gyro's, go figure!!! didnt make much sense to me. good luck, Walt

futaba gyros
Thanks, Klotz. I wonder what the issue is..? I thought possible problems would be the working voltages on some caps, (sorta doubtful) the smm device itself, or dissipation levels in the drive stage. Silicon-based mechanical devices are pretty much bleeding edge.. The first I'd heard of them was back in early '99, and that was a report of a prototype.
As much as I enjoy being a guinea pig, these are a little expensive to burn up in the name of science - at least on my salary. I guess I'll throw a 5V regulator on the gyro. (I don't want to give up my 6V packs)
Cheers

Gyros
Theres always the JR thing. Got a friend running these on 6 volts. No problem at all. Just doesnt have the variable features the 350 and 351 have. But they work very well. Ive changed my mind on these gismo's for now. More simulator time I guess. Walt

Hi guys!
As i undersatnd it from Futaba, gyros have never been meant for unregulated input at 6v. their other items are all rated to 6V so they can run alkaline, but who would run alkalines in a model using a gyro? :-)
Seriously, though, regulated 6V is a great choice, but unregulated is higher htan the system is intended to take.

amcross - Hmm.. sounds like sage advice. I guess it would be the prudent move, I don't think I could afford alkalines with my habit. Thank you for the info.
Best regards
