Default electronic FWD/REV Speed control interface question

Hello, I was wondering how the "electronic FWD/REV Speed control" is controlled. I'm planning on building a special digital radio transceiver for an electric car and I was wondering how the "electronic FWD/REV Speed control" is interfaced, is it like the servo for the nitro engines. For example does it accept a standard servo control signal. Are there any limitations or requirements for the speed control ?

Thanks
