Default Multiplex radios

They are not very common in the U.S. Yet, I think, because they want to expand into the US market, and are very well represented through Karlton Sipndle at Multiplex USA. I myself am a Multiplex fan, over the years I have had a Combi 80, a Royal mc, a Cockpit MM, and now a profi mc 3030.
I love the 3030, especially the ease of the programming. You can assign any servo to any control, have a whole bunch of premade mixers, 3 user definable mixers, dual rate, expo, slow function up to 8 sec, and a whole lot more, I am just getting into it.

Ah, and another thing : In a total of approx, 8 years of using MPX radio gear, I have never had as much a glitch !

@FCC : I agree with you about the advertising, but what do you mean with the R/C standards ?

Default Just a guess!

Maybe by standards FCC means by offering the same standard of equipment as their competition such as PCM and the new higher level of servos..... Standards could relate to price as well.... Price/Product equals value. Let's see,,,,, Standards in value .
It boils down to three things here in the U.S. market, Product, Price and Availability. Supply is currently meeting Demand here, so if MultiPlex really wants to break into this market, they will have to beat the names we trust by product and price, You Know, More for Less. Hitecs doing fine. If I saw a MultiPlex ad that offered the 3030 or 4000 in PCM fully loaded for about $400.00 U.S. I'd be interested. Once they enter the market by giving the consumer what he wants then maybe they'd have enough leverage to get what they want.$$$$$
Typhoontracker we just call them things stands here in the South.

Default PCM

I don't think we'll see PCM from Multiplex because their IPD receiver is every bit a capable as a PCM reciever, the only advantage PCM had to this point was that they could be preset to certain servo positions if the signal is lost. (failsafe) The MPX IPD can do this also, the IPD never leaves the servos in a relaxed position. George Stiener tested the 9 channel one in the March issue of RCM. In his words, $95.00 is a great price for a receiver with this feature and this well designed. I have two of MPX's smaller IPDs and can tell you that the servos never buzz or move unless you want them to. When you turn the Xmitter off they go to the failsafe position and stay there until the Xmitter is turned back on. A couple of FMAs receivers have this feature also but is called Smart Decoder.

Wasn't it Jim Oddino that performed the IPD review in RCM?

PCM has other significant plus's above and beyond PPM.

The IPD RX has moved PPM with the use of an IPD to a level that closely resembles PCM's lockout/dropout point. IPD RX's and PCM RX's produce comparable results when unrecoverable interference occurs.

The only plus that is truly recognized by the end user is the ability of the IPD to realize its being hit, calculate and and slow down the control response's which gives the pilot a warning that he has a problem prior to dropping out and activating failsafe. PCM on the other hand flies through the hit until it drops out and failsafe is activated.

Default Current issue

I think you are right about Jim Oddino doing one some time back but the current March 2002 has another review by George Steiner. I guess you could call it a rave review because he says and I quote "This is one outstanding receiver", he quoted the price as $95.00 but the Multiplex website says $115 for the mini ds ipd. Also I need to correct what I said about the FMA Smart Decoder, it has the ability to fly through a hit but does not appear to go to failsafe when the signal is lost, it maintains its last position.

Default IPD rcvr price

The price was $95.- until about 1 1/2 or 2 months ago, then it was raised to $115.-
Unfortunately, eveything else in the Multiplex lineup also was raised !

Default MPX radios

@captinjohn :

Pico-line intnl set : 5ch xmttr, 7ch rcvr, 3 MS-12 servos, rcvr&tx battery, charge leads, US$ 206.-

Cockpit mm intnl set : 7ch xmttr, 7 ch rcvr, 3MS-12 servos, batteries, charge leads, US$ 409.-

It looks like a a lot of money for just 2 channels more, but the cockpit has a lot more functions than the pico-line xmttr.
