Whip Antennas ???
As a helicopter pilot, we tend to use the 'Revolution' whip antenna.
It's distributed by horizonhobby and probably available at and good rc store.
About $10 and better construction than the Dean's IMO.
hey phillybaby,
NICE BEASTIE!

Whip Antennas ???
I had a Deans Antenna on my Raptor 30, and really liked it. It's a base loaded antenna, that fit inside the canopy. I noticed no reduced range by going to this antenna. My range checks equalled what they were before I had the Deans installed.
Revolution is another one that many helicopter pilots use, and I have heard they seem to be better quality than Deans. I had no problems with my Deans, so I'm not sure what experiences lead people to that conclusion.
Other uses include small electric airplanes, like Ryan Aircraft airplanes for example. I've also seen them used in 40 to 120 size aircraft, though range and vibration seem to be primary concerns in the bigger models. I've never heard or seen one in anything larger than a 120 size model.

Whip antenna
I use the Smiley antennas on my boat radios and did some range checks. They were within a few steps of the stock antenna and to me that makes it a "non-issue" when it comes to range. On the water they work great, and I'm sure in the air it would be just as good. Am going to add one to my aircraft TX and try it there.
