Default PCM vs FM??

I'm in the market for a Futaba 6 ch radio to fly my Tiger II and Sig Extra 300XS and was wondering what the difference between the Futaba FM and PCM radios is. Can anyone tell me the pros and cons of each? Money is not a factor here...I just want a simple, user-friendly radio that will last and perform well.
Thanks

I was a big futaba fan too, but the futaba 6 channel radio that offers both fm and pcm is the 6xa. I think if you look at the 6xa and the JR xp662 you will see that the JR is more of a radio. The Digital trims are worth their weight in gold.

Most of todays new radios are capable of transmitting in both PPM and PCM. This includes the Futaba T6XA series and the 9C series. If you have the extra money the 9C is a real nice upgrade from the T6XA.

To help clarify what Wreckman2 is saying, PPM and PCM are both FM signals.

Thanks for your input everyone......I guess what I really want to know is what type (PPM, PCM or just normal FM) will give me the most reliable signal...ie, radio glitches, etc. and what make and model will this be???? I'd like to stay under $300 if possible.

Hotly debated subject

And all over newsgroups (do a google search).

My humble opinion (FWIW):
I use PCM for increased noise immunity and for the failsafe feature (programmed to prevent my aircraft from causing injury should I lose signal or have a battery go too low)..

Again, PPM and PCM are "normal FM." PCM is pulse code modulation, ppm is pulse proportional modulation. I have even seen PPM referred to as PWM for pulse width modulation. The point is, they are all and FM (frequency modulation) as opposed to and AM (amplitude modulation) signal.

There are several threads on RCU where people debate (PPM vs PCM)this on and on. I recommend getting a radio that can transmit either, then you can decide for yourself.

I own a hitec that does this, and I have heard that Futaba has come out with one that can also do this.
