Default RE: 14MZ or 12Z?

Take a very good look at the Multiplex EVO 9 and 12. All switches can be assigned to what ever channel you want and programing is very simple compared to Asian radios
ORIGINAL: Ken Bryant

I have looked into the 14MZ and the 12Z radios pretty far. What I want to hear is from people using these. I am presently using a 9ZWC2 and am using 85% of it's features. I fly 28% acro, GS warbirds, electric planes and Heli's on my 9Z.

The main reason I want to move out of the 9Z is simple, it's a pain in the BUTT to program. What I want is a radio that will run triple rates, allow for lots of different mixes and provide me with switch assignability. But #1 I want EASY programming.

Can you guys help me make a desision between these two radios please?

Oh Yea, If I don't need the 14MZ that's fine too. I am actually leaning toward the 12Z but I want to hear more about it.

Dear friend,

I am stack on Futaba since 1981.

Now I am flying a 9Z WC2 and a 9ZWC as backup.

I just order the T14MZ from Robbe Germany.

My buddy flies with the 14MZ since May 05. So I finally made the step up.
I can speak for his radio.
I think it's GREAT. 100 memories GREAT screen and it's like a palmtop.
He uploads models music any staff he likes.

Easy to programe it, not like the 9z which was driving me crazy ....

I think it's ONEWAY to the TOP.

regards

I'm glad to see theat another person has the same stumbling block, that is 12 or 14Z. Areas of my concers are, batter life, fragile touch panel, and computer lock ups all on the 14z. I need to decide by this weekend on what I would like to do.The difference in price between the 12 and 14 is approx $700.00 and it would be cheeper in the long run to get the 14, rather than buying the 12 then say i wish I bought the 14. One question with multiple answers that I received was , was the 12z running Windows.

You really owe it to yourself to look at Multiplex. Either the hi end Profi 4000 or one of the Evo's. One of the best values around period.

I'm polling for inputs on the following:
1) Are you having or have knowledge of lockup problem with the 14z.
2) How fragile is that touch panel. Is breaking a real problem or is it a case of Transmitter abuse, or is it a case of entering a key stroke, and it doen't take, some people try to push even harder. If the foundation for the panel is solid, in normal use it sould not break.
3) Is battery life for your 14z sufficient for a good flight time.

Those of you that already had responded to the above quistions, Thank You, You can input any additional information you might have.

Early on there scattered reports of people with lockouts. Mostly in giant scale gas planes and some types of helicopters. Those have pretty much gone away.

My 14MZ is 20 months old. I fly it a lot. I program it a lot. My screen has not been a problem. But like anything, some may break. But not so many that I feel it represents a "problem" area.

3) Is battery life for your 14z sufficient for a good flight time.
I get about 2 hours of flight time on mine. I bough a second battery and use that when I need it. That gives me 4 hours of on time for any given day. Plenty for me.

I bought mine when they first came out and the serial numbers are very close..so I would say it is about 2 years old...

Default RE: 14MZ or 12Z?

I have the 9CAP now and it is a very good unit, no problems with the quality or performance, however it takes me sometimes an hour to figure out some of the programming or not at all. (Futaba or someone needs to write a 9C for dummies book) Maybe I am just too computer challenged to have such a good unit but, it has become so frustrating I am considering the 12Z. I don't think the 14MZ is for me as all I have read seems to make the 12Z the best choice even without the $$ delta. I am going to make the jump soon and any words of wisdom anyone can share would be appreciated.

Thanks in advance.
Peter

I bought the 9ZHPS in 94 and now have a 14MZ. the 9z was wearing out, gimbals 3 times replaced. 9300+hrs of on time+flight time total. I do not regret getting the 14MZ, I like it more and more. have 28+hr on of which 16hr+ are flying.
No problems with it using the 5014 , 149pcm,(syn319,308), 127and gws & fma ppm RX's. In small foamies to giant scale 12ft wing spans 70%.

The screen is no problem in the daylight if it is viewed at the proper angle . Mine is very easy to use in bright sun, all you have to do is move it around until the colors show up on the screen clearly. I have been using the 14MZ since April 2005 and love it.

What do think of the 12Z? This is what I was considering to replace my 9C which is so darn hard to program. Do you feel the 14Z is worth the extra $$ for the features? I don't want to make a mistake as this is going to be the last radio I get to purchase especially when my wife figures out what I did.
