Default 5955Tgs and 7.4 volts

Anyone using 5955s with unregulated lipos? I've had one on 7.4 now for some time with no issues and I'm told that electronicaly they are the same as the robot 5995 which is rated at 7.4.

The 5995 is rated for 7.4v for robots not aircraft.
I burned out a 5955 testing it on 7.4V but it took quite awhile. You probably can get away with it. But why?
The cost of a regulator is quite a bit less than an airplane.
