You do not advise which frequency - one has heard that 72MHz may have been interchanged in USA but 35, 36 and 40 mhz dual conversion RX crystals are definitely not intercahngeable - tested by many people who have difficulty believing previous advices e.g.

Contrary to popular belief I do not recommend using a Hitec crystal. They are totally different in cut, overtone value and a few other specs. "

Well I like to experiment.......
All summer I used a 7U Super and Futaba DC RX crystal with a Hitec 555 RX in my Zagi. Worked just fine.
Your mileage may vary...................

Many people have used Hitec crystals in Futaba receivers (72 mhz) for many years without any problems. The legality is the gray area. The AMA has been asked if doing this will compromise coverage, and they never really answered the question.
