Default short rx chip or normal

what keeps me from using a normal rx freq chip in a micro receiver on an electric plane?

Do you mean the crystal that sets the frequency? Electric planes do not have a unique requirement for crystals different from piston-engned planes.

Then Futaba recomends using only the new short crystal and use no channel at or below #16.

I suspect the reason is this may be a single conversion rx and they don,t give you that information. Single and dual conversion rx crystals are not interchangeable and the new short crystal may be an SC crystal.

That and the 146iP are single conversion. Futaba uses a D in the part number such as 148DF or 149DP if its a dual conversion reciever.
