RE: Spektrum DX-7
For what it's worth, let me suggest that times do change, and I think a person has to make reasonable evaluations, given the CURENT set of conditions!
When Phil made that cautionary statement...just look at the state of the art in electronics.
Relative to what we have today...It was a pretty iffy thing back then.
Since those early days, the industry has developed things to such a high state of perfection, the old reliability issues hardly exist anymore. Not to suggest that everything is perfect, but given the solid state chips...the building blocks of all modern electronics...the real hard part is already done for the r/c circuit design guys.
Design engineers select the logic functions they want, toss the chips onto a circuit board...and voilla! it works! heh heh. Well not exactly, but my point is that these radios that we use are not exactly out there on the cutting edge of technology...even though we as hobbists are breaking new ground with the adoption of 2.4 ghz stuff.
I've put my trust in this new system, installed it is my favorite plane, and taxied it around the yard yesterday. I love it. I'd be flying it today if the winds were under 20 knots!
Maybe after this front blows out...tuesday I think.
Happy landings.
PS. I have already back ordered a few more receivers to retro fit my other favorite planes. And that says a lot for a life long Futaba guy with a 9CAP and over a dozen active flyers.
heh heh...I think there'll be a glut of 72 mhz stuff hit the classified section before long.

Get ready to "Feel the Difference" Futaba man --------
Nope.
That won't work ------ we are reminded repeatedly that Spektrum is a separate Co.
Perhaps this could be a "Feel the Difference" IF and only IF this were by JR!
At any rate it's going to be fun to explore Spektrum ------"whoever you are".
A little paraphrasing from Jimmy Durante's sign off line.
P.S. quote:
"heh heh...I think there'll be a glut of 72 mhz stuff hit the classified section before long."
Not mine baby ---- it's already gone, six meter stuff too------ 'cause I agree with you!

Yes, that's the one. Cliff did the PCS thing. Lucky guy. I still have an add hanging on the wall. Just a keepsake mind you. Little rcvr looks lost in there, I guess that should be plural. Mines going into a Twist 40 3D.

Now was that a poor choice of words or poor taste ---- perhaps both.

Dick,
Thank you again.
Visited Broinlaw when he lived in Mountain Home, AR. We had lunch at a friend's restaurant called the "SAMMITCH SHOP"! Are you related to owner? LOL

Today I flew my new DX7 in an LT40 with a Tower .75 engine. At 50 degrees and 12 MPH winds, I flew two flights with several landings and took it up to very high altitude. Both flights where very solid and NO GLITCHES!!!!!!!!!!! BTW, the range check exceeded the 90 feet in the manual. I quit walking at about 150 feet.
I also own the DX6 and have been flying it for the last 1.5 years.
I will install DX7 receivers in my 1/3 scale OS FF320 powered Pitts and a 1/3 scale J3 Cub, powered by a Saito 450 radial next year.
I am going to fly it some more in the beater LT40 and am looking for any problems. However, I don't expect any as the DX6 has been very solid and it appears the DX7 is as well.

RE: Spektrum DX-7
My test flight was a disaster --
the rain came as we arrived and settled in
so back home and some range tests (for what they are worth) test button depressed all he time
Put plane around corner of aluminum building - walked 150 ft then placed tx behind a car -on the ground - then the signal stopped and immediately came back as soon as I stood up
so model was hidden behind two aluminum walls and a car and it still worked .
better than the 72 stuff I once used .
Now if it will work in the air------

RE: Spektrum DX-7
Someone at my field used his DX7 on a Showtime for the first time. The elevator halves in the aileron channel and Aux 2 were mixed together and both operated normally. However, the elevator trim lever only operated one of the elevators. Everyone was messing with it but nobody could figure it out. Any ideas?

RE: Spektrum DX-7
The elevator trim lever should NOT operate the aileron trim function, unless you're using elevon function. ON most of the mix functions, there is an option to "Include", meaning that any trim from the MASTER channel *does* get passed into the SLAVE channel. I don't have the DX7 but the DX6 would let me set this up.

RE: Spektrum DX-7
I like to use ex long 3d swb double lock alum arms prob is the splines do not line up when usin 2 elev servos, when I rev one of the channels as required this helps a little, also I buy one 8611a reverse top from horizon this also helps a little but even off just a little makes a big mismatch in travel between these two servos because of long arms. after 1 hr of radio setup this is the fix: followed dicks advise switched off both aux 2 and flap including both trims. using mix 5 elev to aux2 u97 d87, travel elevator u139 d124, travel aux2 +100 -100, sub trim elevator d56, aux2 -56. high rate 100% 30% expo. low rate 50% 50% expo. this setup both servos start at center perfect lined up and travel up and down to hingeline matched all the way thru range also with elev trim tab on front of radio at center. since my yak flys level with elev at center this setup looks like a go.

RE: Spektrum DX-7
in English please -Ray-when you get yours I will show you the quick setup -instant perfect track -no sub trim needed. no reversed servo needed perfect track over 150% -high expo makes no difference
Anyway - Skorman - someone did not read the book - trim included channels are ONLY available in mix 5 or mix 6

RE: Spektrum DX-7
also wanted to mention that I start with both elevator arms pointing aft from straight down slightly (one spline) since we cannot adjust expo up and down independant like on 10x this mechanical advantage will effectively put in a little more down elevator travel early in stick movement than up elevator even when elevator deflects up and down to hingelines. this makes rolling harrier/circles much easier allows me to move elevator stick up and down in even proportions while rolling.

RE: Spektrum DX-7
Oops Dick beat me to it, mix on 5 or 6 . Anyway I have been flying my showtime with the DX7 and it's been working flawlessly. I have been a futaba flyer for quite a while and lost an edge 540 a couple weeks ago due to a pcm lockout. The spectrum technology seems to be awsome so far. I would highly recommend it to anyone looking for a reliable 1st sytem or alternative. Now I have to get additional receivers for my planes and heli's. My 2 cents worth. Bill

RE: Spektrum DX-7
dick, I have mine been playing with it all day getting into my yak. you must be using some diff arms. futaba had some in old days with numbers indicating diff spline positions.
