Default JR 649 PCM Receiver & Crystal

I was under the impression that JR PCM receiver's needed the red jacket crystal which is marked D/C. It does not work with that crystal, but works fine with the standard grey jacket crystal.

I use an 8103 and it is set to SPCM like it is supposed to be. What are the red jacket crystals used for?

The red cap crystals are used with JR's dual conversion receivers. The 649 is a single-conversion receiver, and uses the standard grey cap crystals.

FYI GWS single-conversion crystals work well, too.

The crystal type has nothing to do with PCM. The red ones are for Dual Conversion receivers. The only DC Rx that JR produces is the 945S, all others are single conversion.
