Futaba MCR-4A RX W/Speed Control #Cells
I picked up a couple of GP Cubs (20 size) from a club member that both have Futaba MCR-4A receivers with speed control built in running speed 500 motors. I would like to teach my kids on these electric.
I ground ran the one ready to fly with a supplied 8 cell nicad 1700 mah pack and the supplied 9x6 prop that dumped the battery real quick. I cycled the battery a few times and I'm only getting 1300 mah. I used the same battery with a 8x5 prop and seems to run longer without dumping prematurely.
I would like to buy new batteries and wanted insight on what I should get.
The Futaba online instructions indicate a 7 cell max pack.
Can I run LiPo's?
Can I run a 3 Cell LiPo?
How big (1800, 2200 mah) should I run?
If I stick with NiCad, or NiMh, what do you suggest?
Any suggestions on prop size?
I may try to fly with the old 8 cell pack and the 8x5 tomorrow, I have some 6 cell packs (from RC cars) that I tried that dump very quickly so wont be using them.
Your quick help would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks
Eric

RE: Futaba MCR-4A RX W/Speed Control #Cells
We'll with no responses and nothing in history on this RX certifying it's good for more than 7 cells especially the 11+ volts of a 3 cell LiPo, I chose a 2 cell 2200 maH LiPo so that I'm safe at 7.4 volts and lighter than a NiMh.
Was too windy to test fly yesterday and was too busy today.
Maybe I'll wait to test fly when the new LiPos come - will keep you updated.
