If you're talking about the metal gear coreless ball bearing units, I've used them on 5 cells on a 31% lanier staudacher with a BME102 for a whole season and they work just fine. For almost the same money, you can get the new JR811 servo with just a bit less torque, but better HOLDING power, which is really more important...

Are that those servos: GWS S03T BB

Maybe ask David at Aircraft World.

I found info about them here, but they are not listed at the website.

The company website it www.gws.com.tw you can check out the servo's there. I don't much about the company or the servo. They are cheap enough you could always buy one a check it out. I usually buy hitec, futaba or JR servo's. I'm sure there are other brands that are OK but I'd rather stick with proven companies.

With the volume of servos GWS manufactures I wonder how many of them are made for the "Big Three" R/C companies?

From what I understand, but as stated above, I could be wrong, GWS makes servos for 2 of the 3 major players. I'm not sure which of the 3 though.

Above not intended to discourage you. I have been curious of these as well, but have not seen a lot of info on them. I was hoping you could let us know.....

Anyone look at the speed of these? .33 sec at 4.8V? You can almost take a nap in that time! .27 at 6V. Anything above .20 is slow.

I better servo gets that kind of torque with a lot more speed. I've flown servos with .27 speed and the model was a dog when trying to fly fast maneuvers such as a simple snap roll. The model, Avanti pattern plane, would wallow for the first 1/3 of the roll before it snapped. When I installed faster servos, the plane would snap on command.

That was my point. A cheap servo has to gear for torque and is slow as a result.

Another question is can you maybe change 1 gear to speed up a servo?.If you can buy a dual bb 100 oz servo for lets say 15 bucks i'm sure you can maybe change a gear to get the speed up what do you think

I sell thousands of GWS servos. They have a very complete line and are the largest servo manufacturer in the world. Their distribution channels are very streamlined and you don't have 4 different companies making money off the servos after the manufacturer. Look at the S03TXFBB servo. Not as strong but still 78Oz in torque at 4.8V and fast. I have found all GWS products to be of excellent qulity and performance but their warranty support is non existent in the US so know who you are buying from. If you wish to buy or more information try [email protected] I am the largest GWS retailer in the US.

.21 seconds at 4.8V is not fast. It is merely acceptable in most sport models. You must get under .20 before a servo can be considered fast.

just my .02

If you change the gears you change the torque. You might as well buy the faster servo in the first place.

I just bought 6 GWS 100 Oz 2 BB servos for 90 bucks shipped....A fair price IMHO, and I only use 6V batts anyway so they ought to be quick enough, don't you think?
Please say yes, they'll be quick...
I'm putting them in a Razzle and Giles 3 D...

The S03T at 6V has a 60 degree speed of .27 seconds. Compare this to a Futaba 148 which has a 4.8V speed of .23 or .19 at 6V. If you feel the 148 is blazingly fast and could stand to be slowed down a little, then yes, those GWS S03T's are plenty fast, even on 6V

For 3D work, I'd be looking for a servo in the .15 - . 19 second speed, minimum.
