Default New series Hobbico servos = Hitec ??

Hey guys,

I heard that Hobbico is coming out with a new series of servos, such as the 5955TG, which are rebadged Hitec servos, at a better price.

I looked at Hobbico's site and Tower Hobbies and couldnt find anything - does anyone know anything about this ?

Any info would be appriciated.

Edit - i just found this, is this the Hitec 5955TG servo ?

thanks.

The wiring is Hitec colors (red, black, yellow). The optional servo arms and mounting hardware are Hitec part numbers.

I bought some Hobbico mini servos that appear to be Hitec 225s. Same mounting hardware and arms as Hitec. But, the torque specs are very slightly different. I'm guessing Hobbico has a contract with Hitec to manufacture some or all of their servos; but they may or may not be totally identical.

According to Mike Mayberry, the Hobbicos are not programmable. Plus, they cost the same as the 5955s, who in their right mind would buy the Hobbicos when the hitecs have more features and are the same price?

Like I said before, Mike Mayberry of Hitec posted that the Hobbicos are not programmable. I'd say that's about as definitive as you can get. As I said before, why would you want a crippled, rebadged version of something at the same price as the original? Especially with the quality of Hitec's support vs Hobbicos? Even if they hadn't crippled it, why would you want the Hobbico at the same price?
